“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” has just become the highest-grossing domestic release of 2013 with $409.4 million, passing “Iron Man 3” with $409.0 million.
In a surprise reveal, that honor also makes it the first movie with a solo female lead to be the year’s top film since “The Exorcist”. Globally though its $832 million total still has a long way to go though to catch “Iron Man 3” with $1.21 billion.
Disney’s “Frozen” is also going from strength to strength and with $302 million domestically it is now the year’s fourth biggest film.
Army drama “Lone Survivor” is expected to top this weekend’s box-office as it expands wide. The Mark Wahlberg-led drama is tipped to garner around $36 million.
