DC Studios Developing A New “Constantine”

The CW

DC Studios has reportedly begun development of a new John Constantine movie, bringing the iconic character from the “Hellblazer” comics back to life.

Filmmaker Francis Galluppi (“The Last Stop in Yuma Count”), who is behind the upcoming “Evil Dead Wrath” opening in 2028, will write the script for the film which is in a “very early development” stage.

The character, created by writer Alan Moore and artists Steve Bissette and John Totleben, first appeared in 1985 and is a working-class British detective with expertise in magic and the occult and a penchant for the grift.

Keanu Reeves famously played a version of the character in Francis Lawrence’s Los Angeles-set 2005 film “Constantine”. Talk of a sequel to that has stirred in recent years but it has never seemed to gain any serious traction.

Welsh actor Matt Ryan played a more comics accurate version of the character in 2014’s NBC series “Constantine” before bringing the character into the Arrow-verse with a regular role on “Legends of Tomorrow”.

This sounds much more like a straight reboot or one-off along “Clayface” lines. That film, still in cinemas, has grossed $91 million worldwide from a budget of around $40 million.
