“Event Horizon” and “Alien vs. Predator” filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson is set to head back into the space horror genre.
Deadline reports that he will direct film adaptations of author Kevin J. Anderson’s Lovecraftian cosmic dread books “Nether Station” and “Nether Vortex”.
The books follow Cammie Skoura, a brilliant, neurodivergent young scientist said to be akin to Anya Taylor-Joy’s Beth Harmon character in “The Queen’s Gambit”. She’s aboard a deep-space expedition that uncovers a trail of ancient ruins and long-dead alien civilizations leading toward a mind-shattering discovery.
Jonathan Wakeham will adapt the screenplays while W.S. Anderson, Jeremy Bolt (“Death Race”), Tony Eldridge (“The Equalizer”) and Weird Tales‘ President John Harlacher will produce. In an official statement, W.S. Anderson says:
“I’ve been a long-term fan of Kevin’s work, and to say it is cinematic is an understatement. I was thrilled to read ‘Nether Station,’ the galleys of its sequel, and also talk in detail with him about how he plans to expand the terrifying universe that he is creating. Lovecraftian cosmic horror, as experienced by a unique, young central character in Cammie Skoura, has all the ingredients for an unbelievably compelling and terrifying cinema experience.”
Kevin J. Anderson’s “The Sisterhood of Dune” book became the basis of HBO Max’s “Dune: Prophecy” series.
