Fans of HBO’s “IT: Welcome to Derry” just got a lovely Halloween surprise – a new episode.
Running 30 minutes, “A Story of Derry” is set centuries before the events of Season 1 and sees three youngsters venturing into the Western Wood…where they encounter a terrifying ancient spirit.
The opening text of the episode reads: “Generations ago, when the Kollu first preyed on our people, we left warnings for those who would come after. But we hid the truth inside a gentler tale, one our children could carry. This is the story we do not teach. This is the part we left out.”
The episode comes as a welcome surprise as there was no prior announcement that anything was in the works with the first season released a year ago and the greenlit second season not expected to air anything until either late 2027 or early 2028.
That said, some King fans had been speculating about this very possibility with rumors swirling that HBO had secretly filmed a bonus episode.
Others dismissed such speculation, remembering how the whole ‘surprise finale’ for “Stranger Things” failed to materialise.
Tazbah Chavez (“Reservation Dogs”) directed the episode penned by Cherie Dimaline and Jasmyne Flournoy.
