Filming has begun on the third season of HBO’s “Big Little Lies”… albeit very briefly.
The new run reportedly shot for a single day at Warner Bros. Studios Burbank’s The Ranch Lot on Thursday with recurring actress Merrin Dungey reprising her role of Detective Adrienne Quinlan from the first two seasons.
The full season production isn’t slated to begin on the third season until sometime next yesr with a start date not yet set.
The shoot on Thursday however was for one very important reason – a tax credit. By doing the single day of filming, it allos the production to maintain its approved California state tax credit.
Once allotted, a show has to begin principal photography within 180 calendar days of the Conditional Allocation Letter date.
A director has not yet been confirmed, but a DGA-approved director was on set this week and was reportedly someone already involved with “Big Little Lies”.
Francesca Sloane (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) will write the first episode and executive produce the third season with David E. Kelley, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon.
Liane Moriarty’s recent novel “Big Little Truths” moves the action forward a decade and is expected to serve as the storyline for the third season.
