“Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner has reportedly dropped out of the Eddie Murphy-led drama series “The Chairman” which is currently in development at Peacock.
Creative differences are reportedly the reason why Weiner and the show’s producers opted to go their separate ways.
“Yellowstone” and “MobLand” producer 101 Studios and Universal Television are behind the show which will mark the first time Murphy has headlined a live-action scripted series and the first he’s starred in since his stint on “Saturday Night Live”.
A new showrunning team is already in place and should be announced very shortly. The show’s writers’ room has been placed on a two-week hiatus as the new creative leads board the project.
Details of the new series, including character and plot specifics, have not been disclosed. Weiner will write and executive produce the show, his first series pickup since “The Romanoffs” for Amazon in 2018.
Murphy, whose next role is reprising the part of Donkey in “Shrek 5” next year, will also executive produce the show.
