Apple’s “Monarch” Gets A Season 3 Shake-Up

Apple TV

Legendary Television and Apple TV are reportedly in talks for a third season of its Monsterverse TV series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” following on from the second season airing earlier this year.

However, plans are for a major shake-up behind the scenes for the show, with new writers, new characters and a new direction for the series according to Variety.

Matt Fraction and Chris Black created the series, with Black serving as showrunner on the second season. The third season would see a new showrunner installed and will feature new Titans from Legendary’s Monsterverse.

The trades indicate multiple individuals have been approached about potentially taking over showrunning the series. There’s also no word as yet on which, if any, characters from the first two seasons will return.

The creative change reportedly won’t impact the spinoff series starring Wyatt Russell as Col. Lee Shaw. That show follows Shaw on a mission in 1984 as he tries to prevent the Soviets from unleashing a devastating new Titan. Millie Brady, Pilou Asbaek, Corey Stoll, Ralph Ineson, Nyasha Hatendi, Connie Nielsen and Stana Katic co-star.

Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, Jen Roskind, Matt Shakman, Lawrence Trilling, and Andrew Colville all executive produced the first two seasons with Harold to serve as showrunner on the spin-off.

The Monsterverse film “Godzilla vs. Kong: Supernova” is still on track for release in 2027.
