Warner Bros. Pictures has released a short video confirming that “Gremlins 3” has now locked down an October 6th 2028 release.
That’s a delay of nearly a full year from the previously announced November 19th 2027 release date, which was revealed back in November last year when Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav announced the film was being greenlit.
The original film’s writer Chris Columbus, who subsequently went on to direct films like “Home Alone” and “Mrs. Doubtfire,” is onboard produce and direct the new film that has a script by “Final Destination: Bloodlines” duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein.
The original 1984 film was a dark comedy with horror elements and was a big success, grossing $151 million domestically from an $11 million budget.
The sequel in 1990, “Gremlins 2: The New Batch,” was much more a comedy, one effectively satirising the first film – that movie made just $41 million at the box office but has its share of fans too.
Columbus, Kristie Macosko Krieger, Holly Bario, Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe produce, while Steven Spielberg is back on board as executive producer via his Amblin Entertainment label.
