A BioWare Documentary Is In The Works

Fennessey Films, Score G Productions

Akash Sherman (“Clara”) will write and direct while Shane Fennessey and Adam Scorgie are set to produce “Massive Effect: The BioWare Story,” a documentary about the final days of legendary video games studio BioWare.

Fennessey Films and Score G Productions co-produce for Canada‘s Super Channel who plans a major film festival run and a world premiere next year for the feature. The doco looks back at how the Edmonton-based company was founded in 1995 by a trio of medical doctors.

It then went on to sell 100 million copies of role-playing games including the “Mass Effect,” “Dragon Age,” “Baldur’s Gate,” “Jade Empire” and “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic” franchises.

Filming on the doco began two years ago, well before Electronic Arts announced the closure of BioWare on October 21st this year. Shooting has continued throughout the past few weeks.

This has allowed the filmmakers to capture BioWare’s final chapter and how the closure reverberated through the gaming industry. Major players from around the gaming world will be included here ranging from Casey Hudson to Douglas Reilly, Geoff Keighley, Jennifer Hale, Victor Lucas and many longtime BioWare developers.

A site has also been set up for the BioWare community to share photos, videos and how the company touched their lives for the chance to appear in the film.
