Adam Driver Won’t Return For More “Girls”

HBO

Adam Driver has confirmed he won’t be a part of HBO’s five-episode “Girls” revival series announced last month.

The “Star Wars” and “Megalopolis” actor was asked by Cinema Blend if he’s returning, to which he responded: “No, but I wish them the best of luck.”

The original followed four friends navigating the uncertainties of young adulthood in New York City, exploring their romantic relationships, professional ambitions, financial difficulties, and changing friendships. The revival aims to explore the lives of these women now in their forties, rather than their twenties.

Lena Dunham created and starred in the series, which premiered in 2012 and concluded in 2017. Dunham will return alongside Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, and Andrew Rannells, reprising their respective roles as Hannah, Marnie Michaels, Jessa Johansson, Shoshanna Shapiro, and Elijah Krantz.

Driver played Hannah’s on-and-off boyfriend Adam Sackler with their unpredictable relationship, and its exploration of intimacy and commitment, being a big part of the original show.

Dunham revealed in her recent memoir that her relationship with Driver was rather tumultuous with the actor varying between being “protective, loving even” to “verbally aggressive, condescending and physically imposing.”

Filming on the new “Girls” is slated to kick off in 2027 with Dunham, Judd Apatow, Ilene S. Landress, and Michael P. Cohen executive producing.
