A sequel to the John Cusack-led 2007 supernatural horror film “1408,” based on the 1999 short story by Stephen King, is reportedly in the works.
The original film’s stars John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson are currently in negotiations to reprise their original roles while “Stranger Things” alum Natalia Dyer and “The Lord of the Rings” star Elijah Wood are set to join them.
The original film followed author Michael Enslin (Cusack) who is doing research for a book on haunted hotels – finding all of them to be shams. That leads him to room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel in New York City – here the ghostly threat is very real. Jackson played the Dolphin Hotel’s manager.
The original film grossed $132 million worldwide from a $25 million budget and landed quite good reviews for a horror film. Cusack has said in the past it’s the only film he’s done he’d be willing to do a sequel for.
Dyer will reportedly be the lead of the film, Wood will play a supporting role while Jackson and Cusack will serve as more secondary characters this time around.
Mikael Håfström, who directed the first film, returns to direct the follow-up which he co-wrote with Mark Verheiden.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Richard Saperstein, Spyglass Media Group and Frank Mayor serve as producers with Bluestone Entertainment and FilmNation Entertainment co-financing. Filming will reportedly take place in the first quarter of 2027.
