As many as four separate live-action TV projects involving Spider-Man heroes are reportedly being considered by Sony Pictures Television and Prime Video.
The Ankler broke the news, which comes in the wake of the official cancellation of the Nic Cage-led “Spider-Noir” series the other day.
Despite critical acclaim, strong launch numbers, and several Emmy wins last weekend, Sony gave the series the chop over the most common streaming series cancellation reason these days – costs versus viewership.
That said, the series was designed to be self-contained over eight episodes and star Cage, in comments following the cancellation, doesn’t seem upset by it.
During coverage of the cancellation, it was said Sony was developing multiple projects with one of them said to be nearing a series order.
Now, the new report indicates that multiple writers are pitching new takes on other Spider-Man heroes, with the likes of Alison Tatlock (“Pluribus”), Megan McDonnell (“WandaVision”), Kelvin Yu (“American Born Chinese”) and with “For All Mankind” creators Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert all in the mix.
Speculation is already swirling about potential Spider-Punk and Spider-Man 2099 projects, even as most remain in the early development stage, with one or two having the potential to be greenlit soon. It’s expected that not all will be picked up.
