A June 9th 2028 release date has been set for the film adaptation of the YouTube viral sensation “The Mandela Catalogue”.
In July came the news that United Artists‘ Scott Stuber, Amblin‘s Steven Spielberg and Amazon MGM Studios have jointly won a massive eleven-studio bidding war for the screen rights to the property.
The deal has been one of the biggest in the wake of the success of “Backrooms” and “Obsession” which saw studios on the hunt for YouTube viral horror sensations.
Launched in 2021, “The Mandela Catalogue” has amassed well over 100 million views across its official episodes, which are set in the fictional region of Mandela County, Wisconsin.
The region has been invaded by shape-shifting, nearly immortal creatures called Alternates. Creator Alex Kister will direct the film from a script he co-wrote with Tyler Clifton.
Stuber, Spielberg, Kister, Clifton, Holly Bario, Nick Nesbitt and Aaron B. Koontz will all produce.
