Set Photos: DCU’s Gorilla Grodd Sings & Dances

Production is now underway in Atlanta on DC Studios’ “Superman” live-action spin-off series “The People vs. Gorilla Grodd” and… it’s already getting delightfully weird.

They appear to have gone with a practical suit with animatronics – the character has already been spotted in a graduation gown and old-school formal wear, with speculation that filming is for either a montage sequence or even an opening credits sequence for the series.

Set videos and photos have surfaced showing what appears to be someone dressed as the super-intelligent gorilla trying to serenade a woman with a Backstreet Boys cover. Backup singers are soon enlisted.

The group of singers, with Grodd in the middle, are all singing some musical number, with the big song not entirely clear. Filming begins just a few weeks after HBO Max officially gave the series a green light.

Skyler Gisondo will reprise the role of Jimmy Olsen while Jimmy Tatro is officially set to play Gorilla Grodd – a superintelligent ape who is convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City.

In the eight-part ‘true’ crime docuseries, the Daily Planet’s Jimmy Olsen (Gisondo) reopens the case, investigating whether Gorilla Grodd was wrongly convicted in one of Metropolis’ most famous murder trials.

Other confirmed “Superman” returnees are Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White. Joining them are Mary Holland, Eduardo Franco, Dan Perrault, Arian Moayed, Andrew Leeds, and Tim Baltz.

“American Vandal” co-creators Perrault and Tony Yacenda will write, executive produce and serve as showrunners, with Yacenda directing the entire run. James Gunn and Peter Safran will executive produce the show, which is set up at Warner Bros. Television.
