Paramount Chief Still Confident Of WBD Takeover

In a memo sent out to company staff on Monday morning, Paramount CEO David Ellison indicates he is confident that the $111 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery will happen eventually, reports Variety

News came on Friday that Paramount had agreed to put its WBD deal on hold for several months as it seeks to defend itself in an antitrust lawsuit filed by 12 state attorneys general seeking to block it.

The agreement indicates the merger won’t close until five days after the court issues a ruling on the case or June 2027, whichever comes first.

Ellison reportedly told employees that this week that Paramount and the state AGs will discuss potential trial dates and provide an update to the court by this Friday.

Ellison wrote in the memo that “we remain highly confident that this transaction does not pose any legal issues, and we will complete it and bring these two companies together.”

Ellison adds: “For now, it remains business as usual. Paramount and WBD are separate companies operating independently, and our focus remains on serving our audiences, supporting one another and executing our strategy.”
