Momoa Talks Potential “Lobo” Solo Film

Warner Bros. Pictures

Jason Momoa is set to make his debut as the DC Comics character Lobo in the upcoming “Supergirl” film later this month, the character rumored to have only a relatively limited amount of screentime in the film – appearing in about 15% of the theatrical cut.

Momoa, who previously played Aquaman, has made his excitement over tackling the role very clear in past interviews and hopes fans will embrace his take on the intergalactic bounty hunter.

Speaking with Comicbook.com while out promoting the film, Momoa says he discussed Lobo’s future with DC Studios chief James Gunn while promoting Supergirl:

“I have asked. And they do have some plans. If I’m allowed to release anything, I’d just say that, much like Aquaman — we came out with a little splash of him in Batman v Superman. Justice League was pretty big. Then the next thing. It’ll be a slow release, we’ll see where [Lobo] fits.

It’d be amazing to do our own solo. The audience really has to love him and want him to be there…It has to be [R-rated]. It has to be. But you’ve also got to build the fanbase for that. You can’t just drop that in there and expect everyone to come in.”

The comments come as Momoa recently attached himself to “Hells Angels,” a film adaptation of the autobiography of Sonny Barger, the leader of the famous outlaw biker club Hell’s Angels. Writer/director John Swab (“King Ivory”) pens and directs that.

Momoa is currently filming “A Minecraft Movie Squared” and recently pulled out of the film adaptation of the PlayStation Studios game “Helldivers”.
