Dunesday is 100 days away, and with it comes news that Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Doomsday” has set another record.
According to Global Box-Office, the title has now crossed the $40 million mark in domestic pre-sales before its release – the first time a film has ever achieved this volume of U.S. advance ticket sales.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” hit $40 million in domestic pre-sales around 40 days out. To be fair, that film didn’t have tickets on sale until much closer to its release – hitting the $40 million mark after less than a week of being available.
Pre-sales for ‘Doomsday’ were first available in July but limited to PLF screens. More general tickets became available from mid-August.
The numbers come in the wake of directors Joe and Anthony Russo talking about how they are “improvisation-based, rehearsal-based directors” which is why they’re able to go into production with an unfinished script.
They also cited Sergio Leone’s iconic western “Once Upon a Time in the West” as a particular inspiration for the film which brings together the old X-Men, new Fantastic Four, old and new Avengers, and bringing back Robert Downey Jr. but this time as Victor von Doom.
“Avengers: Doomsday” will hit cinemas on December 18th.
