“Alan Wake,” “Control” Developer Sets New CEO

Remedy Entertainment

Remedy Entertainment, the company behind the highly acclaimed single-player gaming franchises like “Alan Wake,” “Control”, and “Max Payne,” has announced their new CEO, Jean-Charles Gaudechon.

Gaudechon is a former Electronic Arts and CCP Games executive who most recently was in charge of a number of sports betting platforms. At EA & CCP, he reportedly “held senior executive positions with full P&L [profit & loss] responsibility”.

Regarding his appointment, Gaudechon said in a statement: “My commitment is to protect what makes it special, deliver exceptional games, and scale Remedy in a way that builds lasting value. Remedy has the voice and the ambition to be a pillar of the industry’s future.”

The hiring of an ex-EA executive has raised eyebrows and concerns that the company will move away from its signature single-player titles towards more live-service and microtransaction titles.

Remedy is famous for creating acclaimed games that don’t necessarily sell big, and often take some time to make a profit. The release last year of their first multiplayer title, the first-person shooter “FBC: Firebreak,” fared poorly with critics and in sales.

It performed badly enough that Remedy was forced to issue a profit warning to shareholders just a few months after its release, followed by CEO Tero Virtala stepping down after nine years in the role.

The company has plenty in the works, though, including “Control Resonant” and the “Max Payne 1+2” remake, along with an unknown project in the concept stage.
