Milly Alcock, Norman Reedus, Kiko Mizuhara, Show Kasamatsu and singer Charli xcx will star in prolific filmmaker Takashi Miike‘s new untitled slasher-horror film which will shoot in Japan next month.
Currently going by the working name “Untitled Kyoto,” the story will follow three best friends who meet up in Kyoto to rekindle their lifelong friendships.
What is intended to be a carefree girls trip devolves into a nightmare, unfolding when Katie (Charli xcx) becomes possessed by a violent, tortured spirit (Mizuhara) in the Japanese horror tradition.
Ross Evans and Yumiko Aoyagi wrote the script, inspired by an original idea of Charli xcx and Miike. Charli xcx and Misako Saka will produce.
It will mark Miike’s latest directorial feature following a legendary career that includes hyperviolent classics like “Audition,” “Ichi the Killer,” “13 Assassins,” and “Blade of the Immortal”. He most recently filmed “Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo”.
Charli xcx is coming off “The Moment” currently in cinemas and will soon be seen in the “Faces of Death” remake, Gregg Araki’s “I Want Your Sex,” Romain Gavras’ “Sacrifice” and Cathy Yan’s “The Gallerist”.
