2025’s Top Film & Streaming Trailer Launches

20th Century Studios

The first look at a sequel to a nearly 20-year-old comedy drew more eyeballs than any other trailer in 2025.

Forbes reports that analytics firm WaveMetrix have compiled a list of the most-viewed theatrical trailers of the year, taking into account how many views a trailer managed to rack up in its first 24 hours.

The result is that “The Devil Wears Prada 2” came in as the clear winner with 181.5 million views, the most-viewed comedy trailer in the past 15 years of tracking by the firm. One-third of the trailer’s total views came from Hathaway’s personal social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

Disney dominated the list, taking the first seven spots with ‘Prada’, two live-action remakes (“Moana” and “Lilo & Stitch”), two animated sequels (“Toy Story 5,” “Zootopia 2”), a Marvel title (“The Fantastic Four: First Steps”) and the just released “Avatar: Fire and Ash”.

The biggest non-Disney launch was this week’s trailer launch of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” by Universal, which also had “Wicked: For Good” in tenth place. Sandwiched between them was the teaser for the Michael Jackson biopic “Michael,” which is the only non-sequel, remake or existing IP film on the list:

1. “The Devil Wears Prada 2” – 181.5 million
2. “Moana” (2026) — 161.2 million
3. “Lilo & Stitch” (2025) — 149.4 million
4. “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” – 144.1 million
5. “Toy Story 5” – 133.6 million
6. “Avatar: Fire and Ash” – 127.6 million
7. “Zootopia 2” – 125.6 million
8. “The Odyssey” – 121.4 million
9. “Michael” – 113.9 million
10. “Wicked: For Good” – 113 million

On the streaming front, Netflix dominated the top ten list of trailers for streaming series and movies and how many views they racked up in their first 24 hours.

The streaming giant owned seven of the top ten slots, with the final season of “Stranger Things” nabbing three of them, the final season of “Squid Game” nabbing two of them, while the second seasons of “Wednesday” and “One Piece” took the other two.

Only one film made the list, the Spanish romantic drama “Our Fault” (Culpa Nuestra), which was Amazon’s only entry in the top ten. Gumball and Taylor Swift took the two remaining spots:

1. “Stranger Things: Season 5” Date Announcement – 171.2 million
2. “Stranger Things: Season 5” Teaser Trailer – 164 million
3. “Squid Game: Season 3” First Trailer – 156.5 million
