The “Constantine” sequel announced a few years ago, sadly, doesn’t appear to have moved forward much. Back then, actor Keanu Reeves, writer Akiva Goldsman and director Francis Lawrence were said to be re-teaming for the follow-up to the 2005 DC adaptation of the “Hellblazer” comics.
Earlier this year, Lawrence gave a positive update, saying things are ‘closer than ever’ for a sequel to go forward with everyone excited for it.
Then, around mid-year, actor Peter Stormare (who played Lucifer in the original) said there was disagreement over the scripts with the studio wanting over-the-top action while Reeves reportedly wanted something much more akin to the original film.
Now, DC Studios co-head James Gunn opened up about where the project currently stands. Speaking to BobaTalks in a recent interview, Gunn was asked about the film and where its script stands. He says:
“I’ve discussed it on and off. I discussed it with Keanu. So, it’s…I think that’s a great group of guys. I like all those people a lot. I think they’re talented, but I have not read any script yet.”
Reeves previously indicated the sequel will take place in the ‘same world’ as the 2005 film, with his character even more ‘tortured’ than before.
