Marvel alum Sebastian Stan has seemingly confirmed the long-standing rumours that he’s playing Harvey Dent in the currently in-production “The Batman: Part II,” directed by Matt Reeves.
Stan was out at the Cannes Film Festival in May promoting Cristian Mungiu’s new film “Fjord” in which he stars and which won the festival’s top honor – the Palme d’Or.
The publication Le Journal du Dimanche seems to have conducted the interview at the time but has only today published the piece.
In the chat, the interviewer asked Stan about “Avengers: Doomsday” and if he could say anything about it. He responded:
“We didn’t have a script. We were just shooting scattered scenes. It’s a different way of working, continuous, constantly evolving. The producers didn’t want us to read it in its entirety, to avoid journalists asking us questions. (Laughs.) I’ve been following this rule for fifteen years, I’m used to it.
I also can’t say anything about The Batman: Part II, by Matt Reeves, where I play Harvey Dent. The beauty of this profession also lies in participating in projects of this scale, which I love as a viewer.”
Stan was long rumoured to have been cast as Gotham D.A. Harvey Dent until mid-June, when reports emerged that he was actually playing a whole different character – the sadomasochistic and psychopathic serial killer Victor Zsasz who carves a tally mark onto himself for each of his victims.
Set photos that have emerged seem to back up the Zsasz story, with Stan spotted sporting a shaved head that is much more akin to Zsasz’s look than Dent’s. Specifics regarding the other newcomers to the franchise like Scarlett Johansson, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch play are still under wraps.
“The Batman: Part II” is currently shooting in Glasgow where a beat up Batmobile has been spotted. The film itself opens February 18th 2028.
