The other week, The Wall Street Journal reported that Universal Pictures was reportedly unsure about moving ahead with an eleventh and final main film in the “Fast and Furious” franchise.
The paper said there’s no approved script, no release date, much of the cast haven’t signed deals to return, and no plans to move forward without significant budget cuts to rein in the spending after $340 million was spent on “Fast X”.
Now, franchise star Vin Diesel has himself offered an update on the film via Instagram. The actor posted photos and a video of himself and Michael Moses, chief marketing officer for Universal Pictures.
In the photos, Diesel wears a shirt saying “Fast X Part 2 Los Angeles Production 2025” and other shots have the pair in a screening room. Moses himself comments on the video saying: “Out drifting with Dom Toretto. Planning everything. We’ve got it solved.”
The paper’s report suggested the most recent draft of the script reportedly would cost about $250 million to make, so a further $50 million needed to be shaved off. Have they found a budgetary compromise that will allow the film to go forward?
The Louis Leterrier-directed “Fast X” grossed $705 million, the franchise’s lowest-grossing release in more than a decade.
