In June came news from DC Studios co-chief James Gunn himself that a secret DC Universe-set project, one not part of the “Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters” slate, was in the works.
In fact, the project was planned around the same time as the others, but Gunn said he didn’t announce the project in that initial slate as “I felt like it was too easy to rip off by another company”.
Now, appearing on the Peacemaker official podcast, Gunn says the project has now set a writer and director – but he wouldn’t say who it was other than it’s not him:
“I was just meeting with the writer and director of a forthcoming secret DCU project that we’re doing, and they were asking us about how much VFX and how much it costs and how many VFX characters we can have.
They were talking about the superheroes in the show, and I was like the one thing you kind of got to be careful about is the superhero costumes, because they’re really difficult to make, they’re difficult to make look good, and they usually cost a lot more money than it does creating a CGI character.”
The DC universe has three announced projects on the way next year – “Lanterns,” “Clayface” and “Supergirl”, while “Man of Tomorrow” and “Creature Commandos 2” are also in the works for 2027.
