Gunn Talks His “Superman” Follow-Up Treatment

Warner Bros. Pictures

With James Gunn’s “Superman” now out on digital and the second season of “Peacemaker” coming next week, the DC Studios chief is once again out there doing press.

On Wednesday night, he confirmed at the “Peacemaker” premiere that he’d finished the treatment for the “next story in what I’ll call the ‘Superman Saga’” and called it a “very, very worked out treatment” with the hope of going into production soon.

He’s followed that up with comments today to Collider in which he says things are moving very fast on the new film:

“We’re scheduling it now. I’m totally done with the treatment. My treatments are incredibly intense. They’re not regular treatments. They’re 60-page treatments with dialogue and everything. And so, now I’m just turning that into a script. We’re planning out when we’re going to shoot that. It’s going to be much sooner rather than later.”

Scooper Empire City Box-Office suggests that shooting could begin as early as the first half of 2026 for a July 2027 release.

Gunn has previously indicated that the new film’s events will tie directly into the second season of “Peacemaker” with events in the season “setting up of all of the rest of the DCU”.

“Peacemaker” Season 2 launches on HBO Max on August 21st 2025.
