Sony Pictures Animation has reportedly begun early development of an animated feature based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Punk.
Actor Daniel Kaluuya and Ajon Singh are co-writing the film with no other deals currently in place and story details under wraps.
Kaluuya of course played the character in 2023’s highly acclaimed “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” and is expected to reprise the role in 2027’s “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse”.
What’s not clear is if this will be a continuation of the same character or a standalone film with no real ties to the “Spider-Verse” films.
It marks the second spin-off of a “Spider-Verse” character following Nic Cage’s Spider-Noir getting his own live-action TV series on Amazon with that expected out next year.
In the comics Spider-Punk (aka Hobie Brown) is a version of Spider-Man who leans into a more anarchistic, anti-establishment attitude. He resides on Earth-138 and aims to take down corrupt systems.
