Amazon MGM Studios and Hasbro Entertainment are teaming up for a live-action feature based on the animated “My Little Pony” franchise.
The famed toys began life in 1982 and centered on rainbow-hued young horses with neon manes and tails.
In the over forty years since they were released, the ponies have been the subject of plenty of animated series and animated feature films, including the 2021 title “My Little Pony: A New Generation” which was a Netflix hit.
This will mark the first live-action project for the 43-year-old property, albeit a project still in development, and so no creative personnel are currently attached.
Though mostly appealing to girls, the franchise found new fans amongst teenage and adult men with the 2010 animated television series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic”. Though caught off guard by it at first, Hasbro has subsequently embraced the ‘bronies’ community.
The project will join other film and TV series based on Hasbro’s familiar brands currently in the works including a reimagining of “Clue,” a live-action “Dungeons & Dragons” series at Netflix, and both live-action and animated works based on “Magic: The Gathering”.
