Having played father and son in “Man of Steel,” actors Russell Crowe and Henry Cavill are set to re-team for the upcoming “Highlander” reboot at Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists.
Cavill has long been attached to the project, and now Oscar winner Crowe will join him in a role who will serve as a mentor to Cavill’s Connor MacLeod.
The original film starred Christopher Lambert and centered on a group of immortals who battle each other in sword fights throughout the ages.
The role is said to be akin to Sean Connery’s Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez character from the original 1986 film, known for his flamboyant attire and complex back history.
“John Wick” director Chad Stahelski will oversee the remake, which has a script by Michael Finch (“John Wick: Chapter 4”). Stuber and Nick Nesbitt will produce the new film.
Crowe is next slated to play Hermann Göring, one of Hitler’s most trusted allies, in James Vanderbilt’s “Nuremberg” which Sony Pictures Classics will release in November. He recently wrapped work on Netflix’s “Unabom,” Cold War thriller “Billion Dollar Spy” and the action thriller “Bear Country”.
