Depp Wanted Back For “Pirates 6”?

Disney

A new report at DanielRPK indicates that Disney is reportedly very interested in having Johnny Depp back as Captain Jack Sparrow for a sixth film in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.

One key part of the report however says that Depp’s involvement will be in a supporting role and not the main lead.

If true it marks a shift at Disney who has stayed away from Depp in recent years after firing him from the franchise. Depp himself hasn’t expressed much interest in returning to the role and previously vowed to never work with Disney again after that.

Then producer Jerry Bruckheimer surprised everyone in late 2022 telling the Associated Press he was “working on” a potential Depp return to the franchise.

That was followed by news of “Chernobyl” and “The Last of Us” show creator Craig Mazin coming onboard to co-write with original “Pirates” franchise regular Ted Elliot. Mazin teased the pitch they gave to Disney was one they though was just too weird – but the studio wanted it.

Depp hasn’t appeared in a major studio film since “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” in 2018.
