With the DC Comics adaptation “Blue Beetle” now in cinemas worldwide, audiences are checking out the film and reacting to it online.
Though technically taking place in the DCEU, the film is essentially standalone with no flashy cameos such as was seen in “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” and “The Flash” earlier this year where Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman briefly appeared in both and Ben Affleck’s Batman had a supporting role in the latter.
Yesterday, a Twitter user claimed that Ben Affleck’s Batman had a “purely comedic” voice cameo in the film but also said DC Studios chief James Gunn had removed it.
Gunn noticed and very quickly and rather definitively shot it down on Threads, saying:
“I’ve never heard of a Ben Affleck voice cameo in Beetle, nor has Peter, much less cut one. I never heard of one because one never existed (just asked the producers).”
As such, the only reference to Batman in the film is a line of dialogue from George Lopez’s uncle character Rudy Reyes, a joke that has caused some minor controversy.
Affleck’s final appearance as Batman was his role in “The Flash,” though last month it was rumored he had a cameo in James Wan’s “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” that was cut.
“Blue Beetle” is in cinemas everywhere now.
