Rockstar Games has announced it’s re-releasing the original “Red Dead Redemption” on two modern platforms it has previously been unavailable on – the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
Owners of both consoles (and PS5 as they can play PS4 games) will be able to play the acclaimed open-world adventure western natively on their consoles from August 17th digitally. A physical release is planned for October 13th.
The re-release will also include the Undead Nightmare expansion, which brought zombies into the world of Red Dead, along with bonus content from the ‘Game of the Year’ edition.
The original game follows John Marston, a former outlaw and gang member who is forced into a mission by the U.S. government to track down his former gang associates.
The game was originally released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010 and became a critical and commercial blockbuster with more than 23 million copies over its lifetime. A prequel, “Red Dead Redemption II,” arrived in 2018 and more than doubled those numbers with 53 million units shipped.
This finally clears up the speculation over a potential remaster of the title first revealed in a Korean classification board rating the other month. That listing fueled speculation of a remaster and potential PC version. The latter doesn’t appear to be happening and the former isn’t true as this is just a port – no upgrades beyond working on modern hardware with presumably better frame rates, resolution and loading times.
