A decade ago, celebrated filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki released what appeared to be his final work with “The Wind Rises” and announced his retirement from the medium.
The celebrated “Spirited Away,” “My Neighbor Totoro” and “Princess Mononoke” creator, however, couldn’t leave his pencils alone though, and Miyazaki revealed he would unretire for one more film – “How Do You Live?” – which is due for release in Japan on July 14th.
In the lead-up to that, a choice has been made. Catsuka reports that according to Studio Ghibli co-founder Toshio Suzuki, the one existing poster released for the movie thus far will be the only image revealed to promote the film ahead of its premiere.
In other words – no trailers, no stills, and no more poster art. We do know the film draws inspiration from the 1937 Genzaburo Yoshino novel of the same name that deals with a 15-year-old boy’s relationship with his uncle.
However, the film is also said to be its own separate story. This means those in Japan getting to see the film first will be coming in with little to no knowledge of its content.
A release date in Western marks for the film has yet to be announced, but that international marketing effort is expected to include stills and footage from the movie, which clocks in at 125 minutes.
Today producer Toshio Suzuki declared that Studio Ghibli won't publish any image / trailer / advertisment before the release of new Hayao Miyazaki's movie "How do you live ?" on July 14th.
