Fans of Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” are in for a treat, as the second season isn’t quite finished yet.
The show’s first season consisted of ten episodes, but the second only contained nine and wrapped its run last week. That led to speculation a ‘bonus’ episode would arrive today – despite the dramatic events of the second season finale.
It didn’t happen, of course, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t one, according to co-creator Ashley Lyle. In a Twitter posting today, Lyle confirmed one is coming saying: “There will be a bonus episode between seasons” but it’s not tonight and it’s not clear when it will air.
We also don’t know how that episode will impact the next season. The show was one day into the production of its third season before the writer’s strike began and brought everything to a halt.
The show’s first season started well but quickly grew into a word-of-mouth sensation as it generated a lot of “water cooler talk” and became a pin-up for those arguing for a weekly release schedule over a binge release. The first season ultimately averaged more than 5 million weekly viewers across platforms.
The second season hasn’t seen as much buzz but is still doing well for the network. The finale episode pulled in 1.5 million total viewers over its premiere weekend – up from 1.3 million for the first season finale according to Yahoo.
