This July sees Timothy Olyphant reprise his iconic role of Raylan Givens in “Justified: City Primeval,” a limited series revival following his character years after the events of the acclaimed FX series “Justified”.
Whilst that show was beloved for its blend of dark comedy and drama along with its various eccentric Kentucky characters, the new one offers what appears to be a more serious affair as it unfolds in Detroit.
The series had its world premiere Thursday during ATX TV Festival’s opening night in Austin, Texas, with cast members Olyphant, Boyd Holbrook, Adelaide Clemens and Vivian Olyphant on hand along with executive producer Sarah Timberman.
One big question that came up is if this revival is just a one-off or if there could be further adventures for Raylan after this. Olyphant says: “I’d show up. I had a good time. Every time we’ve done this I’ve had a good time.”
Timberman then added: “If he shows up I show up, we all show up.” The show’s other writers and executive producers – Dave Andron, Michael Dinner and Graham Yost – weren’t on hand due to the writer’s strike.
Olyphant weighed in on the strike during the panel: “I hope those f—ers get everything they’re asking for. They deserve it. None of this exists without writers.”
The eight-part limited series sees Givens now living in Miami, working as a U.S. Marshal and taking care of his 15-year-old daughter.
A chance encounter on a desolate Florida highway sends him to Detroit where he crosses paths with Clement Mansell, aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent, sociopathic desperado who’s evaded capture.
Mansell’s lawyer, formidable Motor City native Carolyn Wilder, has every intention of representing her client – even as she finds herself caught between cop and criminal, and is playing her own game as well.
“Justified: City Primeval” premieres on July 18th and runs through early September.
