“Family Guy,” “American Dad” Group Walk Out

FOX

Multiple Emmy winner Seth MacFarlane and his fellow “Family Guy” and “American Dad” showrunners Brian Boyle, Matt Weitzman, Rich Appel and Alec Sulkin are putting their pens down.

According to Deadline, the group have made it clear to 20th Television that none of them will be working on their respective series as long as the WGA remains on strike.

MacFarlane has been seen on the picket lines since talks broke down with the AMPTP, and the guild went on strike on May 2nd. MacFarlane was also a big advocate for the WGA during the last strike of 2007-2008.

The impact of those departures should have little immediate effect on either series as MacFarlane had long since completed all his duties on “Family Guy” for the season. Meanwhile, “American Dad” has reportedly around three months of scripts and voice over work completed on the series.

“Family Guy” was renewed in January for a 22nd and 23rd season, whilst “American Dad” scored a two-season renewal back in late 2021. Both shows, along with “The Simpsons”, remain among the longest-running animated primetime series currently on the air.

The ongoing strike is now at the end of its second week with predictions being it will go on for several months. Several shows and films have been impacted so far.
