“Don’t Worry Darling” and “Pistol” actress Sydney Chandler has been announced as the first cast member in “Fargo” showrunner Noah Hawley’s new FX TV series set within the “Alien” universe.
Chandler will play one of the leads, but any other character and storyline details are under wraps. We do know it will not feature any characters from the movies but will still be set within the universe and continuity of those films – so it’s not a reboot.
A year ago, FX CEO John Landgraf said the series takes place before Ellen Ripley’s story and around “70-odd years from now” which would put it in the 2090s – the first “Alien” takes place in the year 2122, whilst the events of “Prometheus” unfold in 2089 and “Alien: Covenant” in 2104.
The series is said to be the first story in the Alien franchise (not including the AvP films) that takes place on Earth. At the time, Landgraf says the hope is to be “faithful to the franchise” but “also a brave and original reinvention of that franchise.”
The project was picked up straight to series in late 2020. It is entirely separate from Fede Alvarez’s new standalone “Alien” film at 20th Century Studios. That project is being made with the intention to premiere on Hulu and aims to do for the franchise what “Prey” did for “Predator”. Isabela Merced and Cailee Spaeny co-star in that film which is currently in production.
