The Lucasfilm Showcase at Star Wars Celebration 2023 kicked off with a panel for “Star Wars: Andor” as showrunner Tony Gilroy and members of the cast took to the stage to discuss the series.
Diego Luna, Adria Arjona, Kyle Soller, Denise Gough, Genevieve O’Reilly, Andy Serkis, Joplin Sibtain, Muhannad Bhaier and even B2-EMO turned up to discuss filming on the show’s second (and final) season which began in the UK late November.
Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, and Alonso Ruizpalacios will direct episodes of the second season, with Kleiman directing six episodes and the other two directing three each.
Like the first season, this is being done in three-episode blocks and those on stage confirmed the season is currently halfway through production. The aim, for now, is to finish by this August, followed by a full year of post-production and premiering on the service late Summer of next year (around August 2024).
During the presentation, they confirmed the Narkina-5 prison ‘jump’ was the last scene filmed for the show’s first season, with actor Andy Serkis saying: “It was really an emotional moment because it was the end of the shoot.”
Gilroy says with the second season, knowing the ending (ie. “Rogue One”) means they can charge straight at it: “If you know your ending, it really helps. We know exactly where we’re going….It’s one way out.”
The first trailer for the new season was screened in the room but has not been released online. It does contain a scene with Mon Mothma saying: “If we do not stand together, we will be crushed.”
