Filoni May Get His Own “Star Wars” Film?

Lucasfilm

We’re about nine hours away from the major 90-minute Lucasfilm Showcase panel, which kicks off the Star Wars Celebration convention in the UK.

That panel is set to finally give us something of a clear idea as to where the franchise intends to go next, especially in the wake of recent months with numerous film projects from the likes of Patty Jenkins, J.D. Dillard and Kevin Feige all being scrapped.

We do know Steven Knight is set to pen a film that has Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy attached to direct, and potential films from Taika Waititi and Shawn Levy are said to be still active.

Now, in today’s The Hot Mic podcast episode – Jeff Sneider is reporting the rumor that “Star Wars: Rebels” creator and “The Mandalorian” producer Dave Filoni will get his own “Star Wars” film.

Furthermore, he indicates that “Lucasfilm is trying to codify the SW universe around the worlds that Filoni and Jon Favreau have created”, and that’s partly why the other movies and shows have been scrapped recently. As he puts it simply: “Filoni = New Lucas”.

Filoni is in charge as showrunner of the upcoming “Ahsoka” TV series, which is set in the same period in the Star Wars universe as “The Mandalorian”. The period also applies to the upcoming “Skeleton Crew” and the previously aired “The Book of Boba Fett”.

How accurate this report is we’ll have to wait and see, but we won’t have to wait long – the panel kicks off on Good Friday at 3am US-PT, 6am US-ET, 11am in the UK, and 8pm Australian-EST.
