HBO’s highly acclaimed and popular TV series adaptation of “The Last of Us” video game series is moving its production.
Whereas the first season was shot over the course of a year in various locations around Alberta, Canada (mainly Calgary and Edmonton). That province served as a substitute for story locations like Boston, Kansas City, Jackson and Salt Lake City.
The next season is headed west, with the majority of filming to take place in the city of Vancouver, British Columbia. That season will adapt a good portion of the video game “The Last of Us Part II,” which unfolds primarily around the city of Seattle.
Whilst the production will likely re-use the town of Canmore, Alberta for early scenes set in Jackson, Wyoming; the majority of the shoot will see Vancouver substituting for Seattle.
HBO has yet to share details about when production will begin. The series was renewed after airing just two episodes – launching to the network’s second-largest premiere in over a decade.
Though the “House of the Dragon” premiere beat it initially, “The Last of Us” saw a steady ratings climb with each episode – overtaking ‘Dragon’ to become one of the network’s biggest-ever series.
