“Fantastic 4” Gets “Avatar” Sequel Scribe

Wandavision Helmer In Talks For Fantastic 4

“Avatar: The Way of Water” and Spielberg’s “War of the Worlds” co-writer Josh Friedman has been hired to write the script for the latest attempt at a “Fantastic Four” adaptation at Marvel Studios.

Matt Shakman, the key director behind the Marvel series “WandaVision”, is on board to helm the feature, which has a release date of February 14th 2025.

The Fantastic Four were the hero team that introduced Marvel Comics, and here will serve to introduce ‘Phase 6’ of Marvel’s storytelling universe.

The characters include scientist Reed Richards and his wife Sue Storm, Sue’s hothead brother Johnny Storm and Reed’s beefy best friend Ben Grimm.

An unauthorized trip into space leads to them being irradiated with cosmic rays – turning into heroes Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, the Human Torch and The Thing, respectively.

Friedman takes over from Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer (“Disaster Wedding”), who boarded the project as writers back in September.

Whilst they were comedy scribes, Friedman is a sci-fi veteran who wrote/created the well-regarded “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” initially worked on the “Snowpiercer” TV series (though exited) and co-created Apple’s “Foundation” series.

This “fantastic Four” follows in the wake of the two Tim Story-directed films in the mid-2000s and the Josh Trank-directed effort in 2015.
