Headey Joins Western Series “The Abandons”

HBO

Former “Game of Thrones” and “Dredd” star Lena Headey is set to join the cast of “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter’s new Netflix Western series “The Abandons”. The project scored a ten-episode straight-to-series order at Netflix last year.

The story unfolds in 1850s Oregon and follows a group of diverse outlier families seeking their manifest destiny. These abandoned souls, living on the fringe of society, unite their tribes to form a family and fight back against corrupt forces of wealth and power who covets their land.

The series will explore that bloody process, the fine line between survival and law, the consequences of violence, and the corrosive power of secrets.

Headey will play Fiona, a strong and devout matriarch unable to have her own children. So she took in four orphans to create her own family and, driven by a higher purpose and a strong-willed Irish temper, her faith and love for them trump all.

Sutter is set as showrunner and executive producer for the series. The project marks Sutter’s first series for a streaming platform and his first project outside of FX.

Otto Bathurst will direct the first episode and executive produce, whilst Stephen Surjik and Emmy Grinwis will also executive produce. Headey will soon be seen in the upcoming HBO series “White House Plumbers”.
