“John Wick: Chapter 4” Targets $70M Debut

Lionsgate

The fourth and biggest instalment of the Keanu Reeves-led action-thriller series “John Wick” is aiming to set a new franchise record at the box-office.

The critically acclaimed new film is on track to take in $65-70 million domestically this weekend, and a further $35-45 million overseas for a worldwide total of anywhere from $100-115 million by Sunday.

That continues the franchise’s knack for its opening weekends to increase with each entry – jumping from $14 million for the first to $30.4 million for the second and $56.8 million for the third.

Costing more than $100 million to produce, the new film has the biggest budget of the series thus far and is expected to surpass the third film’s $328.3 million global gross before it leaves theaters.

Whilst the “Shazam” sequel floundered, the recent “Creed” and “Scream” sequels set record opening weekend benchmarks for their respective series with ‘Wick’ to do the same and easily take the top spot in the process – even with its 169-minute runtime limiting sessions.

Ian McShane, Donnie Yen, Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd, Laurence Fishburne, and the late Lance Reddick co-star in the film which currently stands at 94% (8.2/10) on Rotten Tomatoes) – easily the best of the series. A spinoff titled “Ballerina” starring Ana de Armas and Reeves is also on the way, as is a prequel TV series titled “The Continental”.
