Out promoting this week’s release of the prehistoric dinosaur film “65,” the film’s producer Sam Raimi revealed that a potential sequel to his 2009 darkly comedic horror feature “Drag Me to Hell” is being developed.
Raimi, along with writer/directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, participated in a recent Reddit AMA and was asked if there was a chance for a sequel or “another story” related to the film that could be done.
Rami responded that they’re already at work on something: “The team at Ghost House Pictures: Romel Adam and Jose Canas are trying to come up with a story that would work and I’m anxious to hear if they do!”.
Raimi last directed “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” last year and “Oz the Great and Powerful” back in 2013. What was notable about the first film was it was a relatively low budget feature by Raimi standards at just $30 million.
The original film starred “Matchstick Men” breakout Alison Lohman as a young loan office employee who finds herself the subject of a curse by an old Romani woman (Lorna Raver) in desperate straits after Christine refuses to extend her loan.
Upon release, the film was critically acclaimed with rave reviews and a $90.8 million worldwide box-office haul. The film itself is self-contained so it’s not clear where a sequel could go.
