Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney (“Going Clear,” “Taxi to the Dark Side,” “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room”) is reportedly months into production on a new documentary feature. The subject matter? Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter CEO Elon Musk.

The project is being dubbed a “definitive and unvarnished examination of multi-billionaire tech entrepreneur” who famously acquired Twitter for $44 billion and promised to “restore balance” to the platform’s user experience.

Gibney says in a statement: “I have been working on this film, off and on, for some time and am hugely excited about it. I am delighted by this extraordinary group who are working with me. Onward!”.

Jigsaw Productions, Closer Media, Anonymous Content, and Double Agent are all producing the film but a distribution partner for the feature has not yet been named so it’s not clear when and where it could release.

What is confirmed is that Gibney, Jessie Deeter, Dana O’Keefe, Joey Marra, Zhang Xin, Nick Shumaker and Jessica Grimshaw are all producing the feature.

The Oscar-winning film-makers behind “Free Solo” recently did a Netflix docuseries “Return to Space” which looked at SpaceX. It was a series that overall scored good reviews, but was criticised for not being critical enough.

Musk recently reclaimed his position as the world’s richest man with a net worth of around $187 billion.
