A new report indicates Electronic Arts is polling fans, asking if they would like to see remakes of both “Dead Space 2” and “Dead Space 3”.
Game developer Dillon Rogers broke the news (via VGC), saying they received a survey asking “how interested would you be in a similar remake of Dead Space 2 (2011)?” followed by the same question about “Dead Space 3 (2013)”.
The questions follow just weeks after the release of the acclaimed ground-up remake of the original 2008 “Dead Space” game arrived on January 27th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
NPD reports that the title made it to No.2 in the U.S. monthly software chart for their January reporting period (January 1st-28th). In other words – with just two days of availability counted, it was the second best-selling game of January.
The publisher has yet to officially comment on if it plans to release further remakes of the “Dead Space” games and developer Motive is working on a Marvel Iron Man game at present, but creative director Roman Campos-Oriola has indicated in the past that working on multiple projects wouldn’t be unusual for them.
“Dead Space 2” is widely considered at least as good, and in many places better than the original game with calls for a straight remake of it swirling around during the first game’s remake last month.
The third game is less well regarded, the change in tone from survival horror to action, and the inclusion of a lot of microtransactions, sank both the game and franchise – putting the whole thing on ice for ten years. EA would likely have to promise a major overhaul of that title to convince people to buy to the point of being almost a whole new game.
