“Western Front” Dominates The BAFTAs

Netflix

Netflix’s “All Quiet on the Western Front” dominated the just finished British film awards – the BAFTAs. Director Edward Berger’s WW1 epic swept many of the big awards including Best Picture, Best Non-English Language Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Score and Best Sound.

That’s not to say others didn’t take multiple honors. Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin” and Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” also scored four wins each. ‘Banshees’ took both supporting actor honors, Best British film, and Best Original Screenplay.

“Elvis” meanwhile won Best Actor, Best Costume Design, Best Make-Up and Hair, and Best Casting. Others to nab an award include “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “Tár,” “Babylon,” “Avatar: The Way Of Water,” “Aftersun” and “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio”.

The ceremony took place at the Royal Festival Hall with Richard E Grant hosting. Western Front’s wins wasn’t a huge surprise as the German-language drama is tied with “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” for the most nominations for a non-English language movie in BAFTA history.
