On Wednesday came the announcement that DC’s “Titans” and “Doom Patrol” would be ending with their current fourth seasons.
The news wasn’t a surprise. The writing has been on the wall for all DC series for much of the past year as the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, and ensuing cost-cutting measures and reorganising of the DC strategy, saw shows like “Legends of Tomorrow,” “Batwoman” and others cancelled left and right.
Other shows like “The Flash” were told to wrap things up. As part of the announcement came word that the current seasons of both “Titans” and “Doom Patrol” went into production with the plan to offer a proper conclusion.
Things were headed this way long before James Gunn and Peter Safran took over at DC Studios, but that hasn’t stopped corners of the internet from pointing the finger of blame for the cancellation of the pair of series.
Talking to Twitter, Gunn responded to a fan saying the decision to end the series was their fault. He explained it had nothing to do with them:
“The decision to end the series precedes us, but I certainly wish the best for the talented group of creators, actors, and the rest of the crew that produced both shows.”
The future of the DCU still remains unclear, with Gunn having recently said he’ll unveil his plans before the end of January – which is just days away. Both “Doom Patrol” and “Titans” have six-episode back halves of their fourth seasons yet to air, and a date for those hasn’t been set yet.
