The 2023 Golden Globe Winners – Full List

HFPA

The winners of the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards have been handed out and it was a night full of weirdness and some genuine surprises.

Steven Spielberg’s “The Fablemans” and Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin” took the best film honors among others, whilst “Everything Everywhere All at Once” nabbed multiple awards. Other winners included some expected honors like “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” winning best animation, and acting nods going to Austin Butler for “Elvis,” Cate Blanchett for “Tár” and Angela Bassett for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”.

On the TV side “The White Lotus” took best comedy and Jennifer Coolidge a best actress award that led to arguably the speech of the night which had the room laughing and Mike White in tears. “Abbott Elementary” was a huge winner with Best Series – Comedy/Musical along with two acting awards, whilst other honors went to “Ozark,” “Black Bird,” “The Dropout,” “The Bear,” “Euphoria” and “Monster”.

There were, however, a few surprises. Numerous winners didn’t show up and so the presenters had to give a reason as to why to accept the award on their behalf. When Kevin Costner surprisingly beat out Bob Odenkirk and Jeff Bridges for Best Actor in a series for “Yellowstone,” it led to Regina Hall offering an explanation as to why that had people laughing.

The producers of “House of the Dragon” were caught wholly unprepared to win “Best Television Series – Drama” over basically all its competition, so much so they arrived on stage rather flustered. “Argentina, 1985” surprised many, beating out its four more high-profile competitors like “Decision to Leave” and “RRR” to take best non-English language feature.

The show ran three-and-a-half hours long with a room that was often restless though there were multiple gasps over some of host/comedian Jerrod Carmichael’s boundary pushing jokes. Every now and then someone breathed life into the ceremony, such as Natasha Lyonne’s introduction or Ryan Murphy giving a touching shoutout and ultimately standing ovation to MJ Rodriguez. It was a messy return of the Globes that is still sorting itself out. For now, here are the winners:
