FX has ordered “The Border,” a drama series pilot based on Don Winslow’s cartel trilogy of novels (2005’s “The Power of the Dog,” 2015’s “The Cartel”, 2018’s “The Border”).
E.J. Bonilla (“The Old Man”) will star as Art Keller, a Mexican-American DEA agent, in the series, which will delve into the drug war at the U.S.-Mexico border via the lives of several people on both sides of the conflict.
Also onboard are Frank Blake as Sean Callan, Annie Shapero as Nora Hayden, Sebastián Buitrón as Adan Barrera and Luis Bordonada as Miguel Angel Barrera.
Shane Salerno (“Avatar: The Way of Water”) co-wrote the adaptation with showrunner Daniel Zelman (“Bloodline”), while Jayro Bustamante (“La Llorona”) is set to direct the pilot.
Winslow, Salerno, Zelman, Bustamante, Diego Gutierrez will executive produce along with Ridley Scott’s Scott Free. Filming begins in Mexico in 2023.
