French Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan (“Mommy,” “Laurence Anyways”) returns with his first TV effort in the form of the five-episode psychological thriller series “The Night Where Laurier Gaudreault Woke Up” which will premiere worldwide next yeat.

The project marks Dolan’s second adaptation of a play by Michel Marc Bouchard, the first being his acclaimed Hitchcock-esque feature “Tom at the Farm”.

Here the story follows world-renowned thanatologist Mireille Larouche (Julie Le Breton), who returns to her family to embalm her mother (Anne Dorval) and who reunites with her brothers, whom hadn’t seen her for years.

Very early on, a palpable tension sets in between Mireille and one of the brothers Julien (Patrick Hivon). Thirty years earlier, the pair formed an inseparable trio with their friend Laurier Gaudreault (Pier-Gabriel Lajoie) until one night shattered everything.

Dolan had a big budget and 82 days to shoot the series, far longer than he’s usually granted for films. The story unfolds over two eras – the end of the 1990s and 2019. Dolan himself also stars along with, Magalie Lepine Blondeau, Eric Bruneau and Julianne Cote.

Hans Zimmer and David Fleming crafted the music for the series, which is currently available in Quebec on Club Illico and will be broadcast in France – in a dubbed version – on Canal+ in January.
